Wow. Just wow. What a powerful story about patience and endurance.
You’ll know when you have a great book in your hands when the author is capable of making you feel a series of intense emotions. The amount of detail and thought that went into carefully plotting the story is apparent; Adebayo successfully planted hints throughout the novel to ultimately explain what drove the characters’ actions.
Stay with Me is set in Nigeria about a couple who’s having trouble conceiving. The idea of a polygamous marriage enters their once peaceful relationship, and Yejide is forced to accept Akin’s second wife.
I thought this story would be more about the trials of accepting polygamy; however, there is so much more to the tale than that. There are betrayals, tragedies (multiple ones might I add that left me teary-eyed), and so much heartache that in the end, the book isn’t so much about the ménage à trois, it is more about the determination one is willing to go through to make a marriage work.

Title: The Marriage Pact

What a wild ride. I quite enjoyed this one up until the tragically plotted ending. There were many good things about The Marriage Pact though, so let’s focus on that first.
In Michelle Richmond’s new psychological suspense, we meet newlyweds Jake and Alice who are offered to join a mysterious and exclusive group. The only catch? They must follow the rules of The Pact or face the consequences. Much like their fresh marriage it’s all very new and exciting, however the enthralment can only last so long until the oddities of the secretive organization become more apparent.
I was on board with this story the minute I started it. I loved how quickly I was sucked in, and how invested I became in Jake and Alice’s relationship. I believed them as the picture perfect couple who were made for each other, and who made one another so damn happy it would make others puke. This opinion wouldn’t last long as the story continues and that’s perfectly okay because it is what Richmond wants you to feel. It was an actual roller coaster ride of emotions and backtrack of initial thoughts.

What an interesting concept that ultimately fell flat not even halfway through. There could have been so much more to the story, but I was left yawning and disappointed.
Fierce Kingdom is about “the unyielding bond between a mother and her son, and the lengths she’ll go to protect him.” A mother and son find themselves trapped in a near empty zoo with a couple of trigger happy gunmen. The only thing is we rarely encounter these gunmen and much of the action occurs near the end. If you’re looking for a “thrill ride,” this is not the book. Instead, it really is about the relationship between mother and son and that in itself was written wonderfully.
